The 2017 Organizational Structure Report is an important resource provided by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). Organizational structure of infection prevention and control (IPC) programs comprised one of the four main domains that made up a larger research initiative, the APIC MegaSurvey, conducted in 2015. The information contained in this report represents complete and accurate data on individuals working in the IPC profession.
This report provides detailed information about IPC programs in many different types of healthcare facilities including
- Acute care
- Ambulatory surgery centers
- Long-term care
- Dialysis centers
- Veterans Affairs
- Behavioral health
Results are broken out by primary responsibility of the infection preventionist (single facility, multiple facilities, corporate or system wide, academic, or consulting). As organizations or individuals compare their programs to those of their peers, it is important to remember that the statistics published in this report should be regarded as a reflection of the current organizational structure of respondents rather than “absolute standards.”
This study was conducted for APIC by Industry Insights, Inc., an independent professional survey research firm located in Dublin, Ohio. The company specializes in conducting industry operating surveys, compensation and benefits studies, and member attitude surveys for trade and professional associations.
